Abstract: Presented by Chris Hickman at Metering, Billing/CIS America 2007

For the last decade, AMR/AMI systems have been focused on the meter to cash benefits within the utility structure.  However, these benefits will be overshadowed by the tremendous T&D benefits realized over the next decade.  As AMI systems have been deployed, it is has become more and more clear they are the key enabler of the smart grid of the future.

This session will explore exactly what the smart grid is and how AMI enables it.  Business Case information regarding what benefits can be expected for T&D operations as well as the expected system and reliability improvements will be discussed.

AMI, and it’s dramatic value well beyond meter to cash, are central to the theme of a smart grid and this panel session will bring together industry R&D experts as well as utilities that have deployed AMI to highlight these benefits and how they can be described for a business case, executives and regulators to help show the value proposition for deploying an AMI system.
