AMR with fast polling changes the paradigm for outage management

Abstract: This presentation focuses on how simultaneous intelligent fast polling of large groups of meters changes the paradigm in how utilities approach outage management. Automated response from a few to hundreds of meters allow the OMS to detect, verify , and quickly home in on, the extent of each outage. Outage restoration is tracked as it unfolds, accurate restoration times are provided, and outage "stragglers" left behind are eliminated. Fast polling and a noval approach in assignment of customers to "outage" meter groups are the key ingredients in this AMR assist to a utility’s OMS processing.
