Can CIS be one-size fits all?

Abstract: In this paper Thompson offers an overview of the discipline of CIS and its many definitions developed over the years to finally arrive at a model of perception that sees it as more than it currently is by businesses and utilities. In particular he focusses on the lessons learned from 40 years of CIS development, when history repeats itself customers lose and the transition from CIS as a "cost of doing business" to truly flexible and strategic functionality.
