Electricity demand curves in the domestic sector in two regions of Mexico

In this work, there are presented the load shape of electrical energy from the central and peninsular areas, obtained from the consumption information of the CENACE (National Center of Energy Control)-CFE (Federal Commission of Electricity) and the profiles of electrical power demand of residential users, obtained through measurements done to a specific user group. It also shows the demand profile of the main residential appliances. A comparison is made from the different consumption ways of electrical power in two different regions of the country, and the role of the different sectors in the Mexican electrical system is presented. For the elaboration of this work, the use of smart metering that realize the desegregations the residential users’ load profiles, obtaining the energy consumption of individual appliances in the residence.

With these results the two user groups were set apart in those which the electrical power consumption depends on the region they are located, the type of equipment, the geographical localization, the weather (temperature, humidity, vegetation type) and the users’ social-economical level. With the results attained from the measurement programs, the effectiveness of the energy-saving programs implemented in the sector can be calculated, and, therefore, the definition of new programs in the administration of energy demand can be made.
