Revenue assurance is a key issue for utilities in Latin America and Caribbean. Some utilities have high non-technical losses and huge collection problems, representing revenue leakage. Additionally, faults in electricity distribution grid and, consequently fines, are also dragging the EBITDA.  At same time, regulators are pushing utilities for lower tariffs. As a result, an effective Revenue Assurance solution is mandatory. Smart metering rose as one possible solution to address non-technical losses and collection, but a couple of aspects must be considered: (i) there’s no budget for a large-scale smart metering implementation in short-time and (ii) there’s no “one-solution-for-all-consumers”.
