Conference: Metering, Billing, CRM/CIS Australia and New Zealand 2005.
Presenter: John Dick
Abstract: The presentation examines the impact on networks and generation investment to meet the changing patterns of electricity consumption across the Australian National Electricity Market. Jurisdictional regulators have allocated over $A 24 B (real) over the past 2 years to the network business Regulated Asset Bases. Summer peak load growth constitutes a 1/3rd of this allocated investment. The costs of installing peak load generation plant and the associated behaviour of generators will add to the costs of expanding the network.
Time of use interval metering with communications may provide a cheaper option compared to the impact on consumer’s bills of continuing to allow unrestrained peak load growth.
