Large scale interval data management

Conference: Metering, Billing, CRM/CIS Australia and New Zealand 2005.
Location: Melbourne
Presenter: Paul Grey
Abstract:  The widespread rollout of interval meters in Victoria to comply with the Type 5 Metering directive will commence in 2006. The directive will herald an enormous increase in the volume of interval usage and demand data: hundreds of thousands more readings than at present. The typical energy retailer, network operator and metering company will need to accumulate, store and process ten billion or more data points per year. Enormous stress will be placed on utility systems, especially metering systems for collecting the readings and validating and communicating the data.
