Session 0.1.1

Pre-Conference Workshop I: The move to operational smart metering
Session leader:
Meir Shargal, Principal, Capgemini Global Utility Practice, NY

12h30 – 14h00

Operational Smart Metering (OSM) is the next step in metering – it includes the ability to receive alarms and alerts from the meters without having to poll them in near real time. It allows the meter to store far more information that might be required on a daily basis, so the utility’s engineering team can pull data to analyze events after the fact with far more detail then they have even had before. This session will look at the characteristics and the pitfalls of OSM.

14h30 – 16h00

OSM forms the core for many utilities of their next generation smart grid and their new operating model. In the second part of the workshop, attendees will examine case studies from 5 utilities that are deploying OSM and the organizational impacts of OSM.
