Conference: Smart Metering West Coast 2006
Location: San Fransisco
Presenter: Roger Levy
Abstract:Presented by Roger Levy at Smart Metering West Coast 2006. Recent California regulatory proceedings, the Energy Policy Act of 2005, numerous industry seminars and publicity over utility implementations and pilots indicate a rather elevated interest in smart or advanced metering.
So what is advanced metering and why the current interest?
What are the economics of advanced metering, how do they relate to a business case and how is any of this relevant to a utility implementation decision? This presentation will provide a retrospective on why advanced metering became a key initiative for California, how the business case was structured and why it focused on utility operational benefits and not demand response. This presentation will also provide an update on recent regulatory proceedings and why the findings and decisions might have significance for utilities outside of California. This presentation will also address some of the potential problems that may accompany large-scale implementation.
