American utility technology company Itron, Inc. was recently announced as one of the first to receive the Wi-SUN Field Area Network (FAN) 1.0 certification, following a successful first round of interoperability testing.

The new standard enables interoperability with other Wi-SUN FAN certified products, allowing industrial devices to interconnect onto common, secure industrial-grade networks.

The company has also unveiled its new Itron Bridge 5-WS network integration card, which is designed for multiple devices in an industrial IoT network. All certified Wi-SUN FAN products have been subjected to stringent third-party testing.

“Itron along with other key Promoter members of the Wi-SUN Alliance including our long-time strategic partner Cisco have demonstrated our commitment to the Global development and evolution of this standard technology to create a truly interoperable open network ecosystem,” said Sharelynn Moore, senior vice president of Networked Solutions at Itron. “We are pleased to be among the first to achieve this initial certification.”

“Certification ensures interoperability, which is key to the growth of IoT innovation,” said Phil Beecher, president and CEO of the Wi-SUN Alliance. “We are pleased to officially certify this product.”
