Smart infrastructure solutions firm Aclara has partnered with Utility Dive to help utilities to fully utilise smart grid infrastructure and data to optimise their operations.

Aclara and Utility Dive have released a new playbook comprised of recommendations to the industry.

The endorsements include the availability of central data acquisition and management platform which utilities can use to harness the power of the data generated by their advanced metering infrastructure systems and make it available to relevant stakeholders.

Kumi Premathilake, senior vice president, advanced metering infrastructure and utility automation at Aclara, said: "Utilities are looking to enhance grid visibility and better coordinate grid operations with controllable customer resources.

"Operators are increasingly using data analytics to increase the visibility of DERs and customer load forecasting. They need real-time information on critical network connections so they can act upon and provide reliable safe power."

The release of the playbook comes as utilities are struggling on how to manage their grid and data due to increased amounts of distributed energy resources.
