According to a report recently published by Northeast Group, 2013 is to represent an explosive year for growth of smart metering in emerging markets and in particular within Central and Eastern Europe.

Neoenergia selects Elster”˜s Garnet smart meter solution

[img:NeoE_0.jpg| ]Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo, Brazil --- (METERING.COM) --- October 24, 2012 - Neoenergia, the largest electricity distribution group in Northeast Brazil, is rolling out 35,000 metering endpoints based on Elster's Garnet solution in Bahia, Pernambuco and Rio Grande do Norte states in the country's northeastern region.

The rollout follows the successful 1,311 endpoint pilot project with the Garnet solution completed late last year to reduce non-technical losses and enhance collections.

EDP Brazil’s MD-1400 meter, which is the first to have been developed by a local utility with development in partnership with Ecil Informática, is a single phase meter. The meter is complemented with a remote communication solution comprised of a network coordinator element with HAN and NAN and remote management system.

AEP Ohio's $150 million gridSMART® demonstration project, funded in part by a Smart Grid Demonstration Grant from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, is being deployed in northeast central Ohio. The project is designed to demonstrate the full benefits of installing a comprehensive distribution smart grid for consumers and the utility and includes approximately 110,000 advanced electricity meters, new distribution grid technology, distributed energy sources, plug-in hybrid electric vehicles, smart appliances, and consumer systems and products to help customers manage electricity use and costs.
