South America smart grid market worth $49.8bn by 2023

Central & Eastern Europe smart metering market to reach $10.3bn by 2023

[img:Europe.thumbnail.jpeg| ]Washington, DC, U.S.A. --- (METERING.COM) --- April 11, 2013 - Smart meter spending in the Central & Eastern Europe (CEE) region will reach $10.3 billion cumulatively by 2023, with almost all electric utilities completing full smart meter deployments over that time period, according to a new study from Northeast Group, LLC.

The study, which reviews the growth of smart metering in ten CEE countries over the next decade, finds that fewer than half of these countries have completed their smart metering cost-benefit analyses, which were required by September 2012. Furthermore most of the countries have not yet officially transposed EU regulations into their national legislation, although they claim they intend to meet the EU timelines.

More than 400 smart grid vendors vying for $66bn emerging markets opportunity

Among these 400 vendors, the number of local-based vendors active in smart grid projects currently exceeds the number of large international vendors, signaling an opening up of the smart grid vendor landscape. Among these local vendors, over 160 of them based in Central and Eastern Europe, Eurasia, Latin America, Middle East and North Africa, South Africa, and Southeast Asia are well positioned in the smart grid market. Of these, over 25% are already active in significant smart grid projects.

According to a report recently published by Northeast Group, 2013 is to represent an explosive year for growth of smart metering in emerging markets and in particular within Central and Eastern Europe.

Neoenergia selects Elster”˜s Garnet smart meter solution

EDP Brazil’s MD-1400 meter, which is the first to have been developed by a local utility with development in partnership with Ecil Informática, is a single phase meter. The meter is complemented with a remote communication solution comprised of a network coordinator element with HAN and NAN and remote management system.
