Búzios, Brazil and Rome, Italy — (METERING.COM) — May 23, 2012 – Ampla Energia e Serviços S.A., the Endesa Brasil distribution service operator for Rio de Janeiro state, has taken the first step towards a new concept of intelligent energy management with the installation of a new advanced smart metering infrastructure, including 200 smart meters, in Búzios.
The smart metering solution being deployed in this popular beach resort near Rio de Janeiro results from a successful collaboration between Enel Distribuzione SpA and Landis+Gyr Equipamentos de Medição Ltda.
The solution is based on the automated metering infrastructure developed and installed by Enel in Italy over the past decade and latterly in Spain, and on Landis+Gyr’s E34A and E650 smart meters. It is powered by the open communication protocol Meters and More.
Ampla’s smart metering initiative represents a milestone in the development of the Cidade Inteligente (Smart City) Búzios project. Búzios was identified by the Enel Group as its living lab for smart grid technologies. Cidade Inteligente Búzios will integrate energy efficiency, services and technologies within an innovative urban framework, contributing to energy saving and reducing CO2 emissions.
