Billing problems continue to trouble customers

UK energy watchdog energywatch has launched a ‘super complaint’ to investigate the way energy suppliers charge their customers. A super complaint arises when organisations file complaints about whole markets, and this is thought to be a first for the energy sector.

The number of complaints and enquiries about power bills rose by 26% between 2002 and 2004, and energywatch reports that billing is the single biggest problem consumers have with energy suppliers. It has asked regulator Ofgem to look into the way suppliers handle customers’ bills, in the hope that Ofgem will force through a radical overhaul of the billing process. /
