Brazil pilots to be expanded by ELO and Echelon

Porto Alegre, Brazil and San Jose, CA, U.S.A. — (METERING.COM) — February 27, 2013 – Brazilian company ELO Sistemas Electronicos S.A. and Echelon are to extend the 15 active pilot projects that are running in Brazil through 2013 and beyond, Echelon chairman and CEO Ron Sege announced in a recent investors’ call.

Among these CEMIG’s smart city pilot was recently extended. The Eletrobrás Parintins City pilot will be extended from 3,400 to 12,000 meters by end of 2013, with the expectation this will grow to a 102,000 meter project.

The companies also anticipate pilots beyond Brazil, including in Chile, Paraguay, Uruguay and Colombia, Sege said.

Echelon is also involved, through partner Caribbean Metering Systems, in a new 30,000 ANSI meter pilot for Puerto Rico Electric Authority (PREPA) in the country’s capital San Juan.
