Recife, Brazil — (METERING.COM) — February 2, 2009 – The energy company of Pernambuco, Celpe (Companhia Energética de Pernambuco) has signed a contract with Itron Inc. for the deployment of its revenue protection services.

The three-year contract will help Celpe to identify non-technical losses for its more than 2.8 million consumers across a 333,000 km2 service territory in the state of Pernambuco.

Revenue protection services include field inspections, meter replacement in case of installation problems, and debt calculation and negotiation.

“We have great expectations for this new contract and look forward to the introduction of new technologies and an improvement in our results,” commented José Cherem Pinto, Celpe’s superintendent.

Celpe belongs to the Neoenergia Group, one of the main utility groups in Brazil, with more than 7.9 million customers.
