Mexico City, Mexico — (METERING.COM) — November 30, 2009 – Mexico’s state power company Comisión Federal de Electricidad (CFE) will start installing new smart meters in the first two months of 2010.
This was said at a press conference last week by CFE CEO Alfredo Elías Ayub, who commented that the cost per meter to CFE was a little over MX$500 (US$39). Meters would be provided free to customers
“There are 6 million meters so it will take a little time to change them,” said Ayub, adding that the replacement would start with the oldest meters.
In addition a prepayment facility would be made available to customers, in which they would be able to purchase credits on a card.
