San Jose, Costa Rica — (METERING.COM) — January 3, 2011 – Costa Rica has been selected by Mitsubishi for the American launch of its all electric vehicle (EV) the i-MiEV.
The i-MiEV will become available in Costa Rica in February – ahead of the U.S. launch later in the Spring.
According to a statement Costa Rica was selected because of its ecological trajectory, its concern with the environment, and its stated objective of becoming the first country in the world to become carbon neutral by 2021.
“The launch of this electric vehicle is a milestone and an achievement for Costa Rica,” said Guillermo Charpentier, CEO of Mistsubishi’s Costa Rica distributor VEINSA. “It marks a radical change in the transition to a 100% electric vehicle fleet, which is the future of the automotive market.”
The i-MiEV has already been launched in Japan, and the European launch of the vehicle will take place in the U.K. later this month.
