In South America, Brazil’s largest non state-owned group of electric energy and distribution companies has confirmed the further deployment of SAP business management software, according to local media.
CPFL Energia has bought the SAP utilities-specific module with the aim of unifying the management processes across all divisions of the group including RGE, one of eight electricity distributors, which was previously using an internally developed solution.
CPFL Energia, which combined is the third largest electric utility in Brazil, will have a single platform to manage customer service activities as well as billing, collection, measurement and management services.
SAP’s customer care and services solutions, which manages billing and customer relations, is already being used throughout the group.
The latest purchase of software will be for RGE, responsible for distributing electricity in 264 municipalities in the north and northeast of the Rio Grande do Sul state, serving approximately 51% of Rio Grande do Sul.
Standardizing customer service
Marcelo Carreras, director of information technology group at CPFL Energia, said: “CPFL adopted the strategy of standardization and consolidation of its corporate systems and a new SAP solutions package in order to optimize the entire operation and achieving excellence of service provided to citizens and businesses.
“The adoption of best practices that exist in the world for the utilities sector is an important step in our processes become increasingly more agile and efficient.”
SAP’s Brazilian partners Neoris and Integra will install the new customer service software by mid-2015.
A spokesman from SAP Brazil said CPFL Energia has been a customer since 2009.
More than 80% of utilities in Brazil use SAP solutions, he confirmed.
