EDE Este implements ISO 9001-2000 for meter reading, billing, revenue collection


Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic — (METERING.COM) — February 3, 2009 – Dominican Republic utility Empresa Distribuidora de Electricidad del Este (EDE Este) has begun the process of implementing the ISO 9001:2000 Quality Management System with the aim of achieving quality certification for its meter reading, billing and revenue collection processes.

As such EDE Este has become the first distributor in the country to implement the standard, which will enable customers to have greater satisfaction and confidence in core service processes.

The planning phase for the initiative was launched by the utility’s commercial directorate in mid-2008. As part of this step EDE Este contracted the services of consulting company Supreme Qualitas SA, which is led by Carlos De Gracia Núñez, a leading ISO auditor and the first consultant in Central America to achieve the certification of an integrated management system.

The general manager of EDE Este, José Leonardo Mariñas, said the step puts EDE Este on the path to achieving full customer satisfaction for its electricity service. He added that this is also a sign that EDE Este is committed to resolving the electricity problem in the Dominican Republic and will continue taking the necessary steps to improve the quality of life of the Dominican people, through a high quality electric service complying with all international standards.

“The implementation of ISO 9001:2000 is a ratification of our commitment to providing our customers with a quality service. All our staff is aware of the importance of this process, which takes discipline and dedication,” said Marinas.

The quality policy of EDE Este is supported by a team of professionals who are responsible for ensuring that bills are accurate and they are delivered on time to facilitate effective collection of revenue.

The team responsible for the implementation of ISO 9001:2000 is led by the commercial director, Enrique Aguirre, who explained that working under a quality standard is to guarantee efficiency and that services and operations are carried out according to established requirements and processes.

"More than a certification on paper, it is to ensure that the processes carried out in the company are made under strict quality control,” Aguirre said. “That’s why we started with the business cycle as the backbone of the entire company.”
