Guayaquil, Ecuador and Liberty Lake, WA, U.S.A. --- (METERING.COM) --- January 3, 2012 - Eléctrica de Guayaquil, the state-owned electric utility in Guayaquil, Ecuador, has completed the installation of Latin America’s first meter-to-cash smart metering system, according to Itron, which supplied the technology.
The communication system is actively collecting meter data and feeding the company’s meter data management (MDM) system.
With the solution, Eléctrica de Guayaquil can reduce and control both technical and non-technical energy losses using more precise tamper proof meters with accurate measurement and sensing capabilities for Guayaquil’s commercial and industrial customers. The solution also improves operational processes and efficiency, and will enable the utility enables to take advantage of future capabilities and applications, including theft analytics
