Compania Nacional de Fuerza y Luz, SA (CNFL) is installing its largest ever acquisition of electronic meters in Costa Rica. The meters – Elster Electricity’s ALPHA® Plus meters – are for both C&I and residential customers. CNFL distributes electricity in the most densely populated area of the country, the central region or Great Metropolitan Area.
Elster’s ALPHA Plus meters are part of CNFL’s project to collect TOU data in commercial and residential areas throughout San Jose. The meters perform well in tropical and sub-tropical climates, and additional advanced features such as load profiling and power quality monitoring allow the utility to analyse demand and energy data immediately, generate more accurate bills and improve customer satisfaction.
Elster has also been awarded a contract by JEA (a utility in Florida with 750,000 water and electricity customer accounts) to supply Alpha Plus electronic meters with the Cellnet MFMM (multi-function meter module). This module transmits metering and diagnostic information via RF, supporting JEA’s requirement for implementing a direct register meter reading solution. The polyphase metering solution allows JEA to complete its Cellnet real-time network meter reading system for all electricity and water meters within its service territory.
