Mexico City, Mexico — (METERING.COM) — December 19, 2008 – Gas Natural Mexico is reported to be planning to introduce prepayment meters as a measure to assist customers through the current economic crisis.
José García Sanleandro, director of customer service, was quoted as saying the meters would be introduced around the end of the first quarter of 2009, with 15,000 prepayment meters to be installed in the north of the country.
Users who wish to convert to prepayment will not be required to make additional payment to do so.
Gas Natural Mexico invested $405 million (US$30.6 million) in Mexico during 2008 and plans to invest a similar sum during 2009. Much of this is destined for expansion in the metropolitan zone of Monterrey, where the company has 664,000 customers.
Gas Natural Mexico, part of the Gas Natural Group, has 1.25 million customers in 38 municipalities throughout Mexico.
