São Paulo, Brazil and Liberty Lake, WA, U.S.A. — (METERING.COM) — May 3, 2013 – An upgraded version of Itron’s ACE SL7000 meter, a high-end industrial smart meter, has been certified for marketing in Brazil by the country’s metrology institute Inmetro.
To date, more than 900,000 units of the SL7000 smart meter have been sold in 90 countries. Upgrades for Brazil include an integrated modem, which optimizes communications and allows the meter to send alerts via SMS or e-mail about reverse energy detection, fraud attempts, excessive heating, quality of energy monitoring, and demand excess. This functionality makes identifying and fixing failures faster and more efficient.
“Marketing the SL7000 smart meter is a very important step which will contribute to modernizing the Brazilian energy system and will prepare the market for the full deployment of smart grid technologies,” said Gadner Vieira, general manager of Itron’s electricity business line in Latin America.
The SL7000 meter incorporates several measuring and billing functions aimed at C&I and T&D markets, enabling complete integration with smart grid systems. The meter has the flexibility to be configured to meet both free clients and THS measuring requirements and regulations.
