ScottishPower has won the international category for the electric power industry’s Edison Award, in recognition of its strong operational performance in delivering improved customer service while achieving excellent financial growth.
The prize is given annually by the Edison Electric Institute (EEI) to members that have made significant contributions to the advancement of the industry. A panel of academics and past and current EEI chairman select the winners.
A pioneer in innovative applications and siting initiatives, Scottish Power introduced a new capped-price product in the UK, which protects customers against rate increases for the duration of the contract, while allowing for the opportunity to achieve savings if the price of power falls. This allowed it to grow its customer base by over 600,000. In addition the utility launched an online energy option, which allowed 150,000 customers to submit meter readings and manage their accounts online. Qualifying customers in the lower income bracket are also able to access home improvement grants to replace old or energy-inefficient heating appliances with more modern equipment.
