Jacques Régis was elected as the next IEC president during the 70th General Meeting in Berlin, Germany. He studied science at the Université de Montréal, where he obtained a B.Sc. in 1968 and an M.Sc. in materials chemistry in 1973. In 1983, he received a diploma in administration from the École des hautes études commerciales and a diploma from the International Centre for Research and Studies in Management, in Montréal.
Régis is a former President of Hydro-Québec TransEnergie and sat as member of the board of several subsidiaries of HQ International. He has also chaired the Transmission Council of the Canadian Electrical Association. A former Vice-President of the Executive Committee of the Northeast Power Coordinating Council (NPCC) and a board member of Consorcio Transmantaro S.A. (Peru), Régis represented Canada on the Management Committee of the North America Electric Reliability Council (NERC).
He begins his one-year term as IEC President-elect on 1 January 2007 and a three-year term as IEC President on 1 January 2008.
