Jamaica Public Service selects Amperion for substation BPL feeder metering pilot

Kingston, Jamaica and Lawrence, MA, U.S.A. — (METERING.COM) — November 25, 2010 – Jamaica Public Service Company Limited (JPS) has selected communications solution provider Amperion Inc. for a BPL substation communication project.

As part of this multi-phase project, Amperion will deliver powerline network communications that will connect feeder meter reading equipment inside four of Jamaica’s substations.

The first phase of this project, for which the installation has been completed, has included four substations in different parts of the island and will be followed by a second phase upon successful implementation.

In other news Amperion is participating in a trial of high voltage broadband over power line (HVBPL) communications technology with the Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority (PREPA). The aim is to demonstrate the technology to communicate to substations without an existing telecommunication service. Other participants include PowerNET International, LLC and International Broadband Electric Communications, Inc. (IBEC).
