Entries for the prestigious Prepayment Innovation Awards, one for prepayment technology innovation and the other for prepayment project excellence, are invited from companies and utilities across the globe.
The final deadline for entries is May 15, 2007.
The awards will be presented to the winners at African Utility Week, to take place in Cape Town, South Africa from May 28 – June 1, 2007.
In 2006, the Best Technology award was won by the Expertron Group for their ‘Cell power’ electronic voucher vending system, while Johannesburg Water received the Best Project award for its ‘Operation conserve water’ initiative.
“As South Africa is a pioneering leader in this market, we have decided to pit local skills against international innovation and therefore are opening up the award to international entries. Different social environments create different demands,” says Jonathan Spencer Jones, editor of Smart Energy International.
African Utility Week is the largest gathering of African utilities on the continent to discuss metering, billing and customer service issues, as well as other power sector developments, with 1,200 participants in 2006.
In 2007 the event includes Metering, Billing/CRM Africa and International Prepayment Week, as well as a number of technical seminars, workshops, user group workshops, technical tours and metering association annual general meetings.
With the era of service delivery, privatisation, restructuring and reform moving forward, it is important that government representatives, utility CEOs, municipal managers, engineers, strategic planners, financiers and vendors are aware of the legal frameworks, projects, technologies and consumer requirements in order to build Africa into a sustainable continent.
