Man jailed for meter theft


Santo Domingo Este, Dominican Republic — (METERING.COM) — March 12, 2008 – A Dominican Republic man has been jailed for 3 months for stealing electricity meters.

Pablo Quezada, who was accused of stealing the meters, was found in possession of two meters, with the identification numbers 54843 and 50876, of the type that has been deployed by Santo Domingo utility Empresa Distribuidora de Electricidad del Este (EDE-Este) in its service area.

According to EDE-Este the arrest of the suspect followed an investigation in which it was found that he was given the task of removing the meters for the purpose of doing business with them. The meters were removed during the night hours in the Villa Consuelo area.

EDE-Este has promised to remain vigilant against any acts of crime affecting the company and its customers throughout its concession area, and the country in general.
