Mayor of London supports compulsory water metering

Ken Livingstone

London, U.K. — (METERING.COM) — September 27, 2006 – Mayor of London Ken Livingstone has warned residents in the city that they have to face the reality of compulsory water metering to reduce losses and wastage, saying that he is prepared to work with the government to get the controversial move approved.

Londoners have already cut water use by between 7 and 8%, but more needs to be done to conserve the resource in a region that has seen low rainfall over the last few years. The Mayor believes that residents are ready to accept the necessity of compulsory metering.
