Michele Kirkland, Consumers Energy’s executive manager of operations services, has been named as vice president of energy operations, effective October 1.
In this new position, Kirkland will have overall responsibility for the construction, operation and maintenance of the company’s electric and natural gas systems, as well as network services, gas transmission and storage, metering operations, and the appliance service business.
Consumers Energy provides energy service to 1.8 million electric customers and 1.7 million gas customers.
“Michele is dedicated to the company’s mission of providing safe, reliable and affordable energy service to its customers,” said Daniel Malone, senior vice president of distribution and customer operations. “She has extensive experience in the company’s field operations and is a proven leader who achieves consistent results through teamwork and working in a collaborative manner."
Kirkland joined Consumers Energy in 1987 and has held a series of increasingly responsible positions, including a decade in field operations management at several levels. She holds a bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University.
Kirkland succeeds Rufus Gladney, who recently passed away.
