Nick Winser new president of ENTSO-E


Nick Winser, CEO of National Grid (UK), has been elected as the president of the European Network of Transmission System Operators for Electricity (ENTSO-E) at its annual assembly last month.

Pierre Bornard, vice-CEO of RTE (France), was elected as chairman.

Setting out his vision for the term, Winser highlighted the need for a clear and stable EU energy policy for 2030, the establishment of an attractive financing framework and effective permitting for electricity transmission as issues which all require immediate action. Progress in these areas is a prerequisite to achieve the EU objectives of security of supply, competitive markets, affordable energy supply for all customers, and the transition to a low carbon economy.
Winser also highlighted the unprecedented change occurring in the sector, saying “the energy mix across Europe is facing changes never witnessed before, and ENTSO-E and its 41 members from 34 countries will focus even more at keeping the lights on, safely and efficiently.”

In addition to the new president and chair, Damjan Medimorec from HEP-OPS Croatia was elected as vice president, and Bente Hagem from Statnett Norway as vice chair of the Board.

The chairs of the committees and the 10 Board positions were also filled. The committee chairs are:
