Objections to water meters dismissed

Neuquén, Argentina — (METERING.COM) — December 6, 2007 – A court decision to allow the Nuequén provincial water and sanitation body, Ente Provincial de Agua y Saneamiento (EPAS) to continue installing water meters in the southern Argentine province’s capital city has been upheld by the city’s civil chamber.

This follows an appeal by residents, who argued that that the meters violated their rights in being “discriminatory”, as they were being installed only in certain areas of the city.

Chamber members Lorenzo Garcia and Enrique Sanchez Videla felt that the metering of water “will not result in greater expense” to users because they are not forced by the EPAS to change their payment method. Moreover it should be borne in mind that this payment method may be imposed in the future if domestic water metering is extended to the whole of the city.
