Elster Electricity’s REX meter is an electronic meter designed for residential metering. With two-way communications, it offers demand, time-of-use (TOU), load profile recording, bidirectional metering and critical tier pricing (CTP) capabilities in addition to kWh consumption measurement. The REX meter has on-board two-way radio frequency (RF) communications that permit the meter to respond to requests over an unlicensed 900 MHz local area network (LAN). REX meters deployed on the EnergyAxis® System act as repeaters and are self-registering via an A3 ALPHA® meter/collector.

The REX meter is available in Forms 1S, 2S, 3S, 4S, and 12S socket-type bases. It has a 0.5 ANSI accuracy class.

The REX meter offers the following selectable metering quantities:

  • kWh delivered
  • kWh received
  • kWh sum (delivered + received)
  • kWh net (delivered – received)

In addition to the selected primary metering quantity, kWh received is always measured.

TOU and Demand
The REX meter supports a four–tier, four–season TOU rate. Energy values can be assigned to any of the four TOU tiers. Demand (kW) can be assigned to any two of the TOU tiers. Previous season data is also available following a season change.

Demand may also be assigned as a block interval maximum value and computed on 15, 30 or 60 minute intervals.

Load Profile Recording
The REX meter provides load profile recording. The selectable interval lengths are 15, 30, or 60 minutes. The REX meter load profile record is periodically transferred to the local A3 ALPHA meter/collector where it is stored until transferred to the EnergyAxis Metering Automation Server (MAS) via a public wide area network (WAN) connection.
