Rolf Bienert has been named as technical director of the OpenADR Alliance, a non-profit corporation created to foster the development, adoption and compliance of the Open Automated Demand Response (OpenADR) standard.
In this role Bienert is responsible for crafting and managing the technical strategy, direction and activities of the Alliance. The primary focus involves driving industry adoption of a detailed technology specification based on the OASIS Energy Interop V1.0 work and OpenADR V1.0 specification; and development and implementation of a testing and certification program for hardware and software products conforming to the OpenADR standard.
Most recently Bienert was the technical manager for Telecom and the Global Competence Center for emerging communication protocols at TUV Rheinland. In this role he was involved in many international standardization efforts and guided the company’s efforts in these areas. He also has been an active member of the NIST SGTCC, OpenADR Alliance, USNAP Alliance, SunSpec Alliance, ZigBee Alliance, and other organizations driving the development of new technologies with a specific focus on certification and interoperability.
Other past engagements include a variety of positions at international technology organizations.
“I am very pleased to have Rolf on-board to lead the technical activities of the OpenADR Alliance,” said Barry Haaser, managing director of the OpenADR Alliance. “Rolf’s extensive background developing testing and certification programs and managing industry alliances makes him the ideal candidate to lead the alliance through development of its testing and compliance program.”
