Teridian Semiconductor Corp. begins shipping volume production of its STM1E – SFP

Irvine, Calif. – February 23, 2006 – Teridian Semiconductor today announced it is shipping volume production of its STM1E-SFPxx copper SFP transceiver for 155Mbps STM-1e electrical interfaces. Utilizing Teridian’s proven family of 78P235x integrated circuits and Bel Fuse’s expertise in manufacturing of integrated Telecom modules, the STM1E-SFPxx provides optical networking equipment manufacturers a simple, pluggable solution that ensures compliance with all the relevant jitter, return loss, surge protection, and interface specifications for STM-1/STS-3 electrical interfaces.

On the media side, the STM1E-SFPxx interfaces to a pair of unbalanced 75ohm cable using DIN 1.0/2.3 coaxial connectors. On the host side, a pluggable interface compatible with the Multi-Source Agreement (MSA) for Small Form-factor Pluggable (SFP) transceivers allows interoperability with existing systems designed for pluggable OC3/STM1o optics. A serial EEPROM provides access to transceiver technology and identification information.

To date, over 15,000 SFPs have been deployed using the Teridian 78P2351R PHY integrated circuit and another 70,000 ports of Teridian’s 78P235x IC into dedicated E4/STM-1e line cards. Teridian offers both standard and OEM versions of the STM1E-SFPxx in addition to single and dual channel versions of the 78P235x IC.
