The Zigee alliance builds momentum

The ZigBee™ Alliance, an association of companies working together to enable wirelessly networked monitoring and control products based on an open global standard, continues to build momentum. At the Alliance’s recent Open House in Chicago in September, a record number of ZigBee products were demonstrated from member companies.

During that meeting, the Alliance also recently announced that BM Group, a leading international company in connector technology, has been admitted as a “Promoter” level member, joining Chipcon, Ember Corporation, Freescale Semiconductor, Inc., Honeywell, Mitsubishi Electric, Motorola, Philips and Samsung on the ZigBee Alliance Board of Directors.

The ZigBee Alliance currently has members in 24 countries across six continents, illustrating the worldwide interest in ZigBee technology. BM Group, a Rozzano (Milan)-based company, was the first Italian company to take an active role in the ZigBee Alliance and represents the fourth international company elected to the Alliance’s board of directors. The Alliance continues to welcome new members who are interested in driving the adoption of ZigBee-enabled devices in real-world applications.

The ZigBee Alliance now has well over 180 members worldwide. In October, ZigBee took top honors at CABA’s Connected@Home conference in Las Vegas. The award given by CABA, “Best Technology of the Year,” honoured ZigBee as the technology to make the automated home a reality because of its reliability, low cost, long battery life and ease of deployment.

he ZigBee Alliance also celebrated its sold-out ZigBee Developer’s Conference, held in conjunction with the Connected@Home2005 show. The ZigBee Developers’ Conference provided developers with a hands-on opportunity to explore the ZigBee specification in detail and learn first-hand how to incorporate ZigBee into wireless sensing and control products.

Continuing its efforts to educate the residential, commercial and industrial markets on the benefits of wireless sensing solutions, the ZigBee Alliance will hold its next Open House in Mongkok, Hong Kong on December 8 at the Langham Place Hotel.

The Open House will include keynote speakers, concurrent technical tracks and an evening reception for ZigBee members, attendees and the media. For more details on upcoming ZigBee events or to register for the Hong Kong Open House visit
