Dr. Sunil Chhaya, Senior Manager, OEM Plug-in HEV Programs, Electric Power Research Institute from Palo Alto, CA has confirmed his presentation at the ‘World Meter Design Congress’. The 2nd annual event, which is the only global platform for meter design engineers, will take place from 23-24 February 2009 in San Francisco.
As a Senior Manager in the Electric Transportation group at EPRI, Sunil is currently leading EPRI’s collaborative RD&D projects in light- and medium-duty plug-in hybrid-related technology, primarily focusing on technical project management of the Ford/Eaton Medium-Duty PHEV F550 utility repair truck program. This program involves Eaton, Ford, Roush, and Ricardo, and is funded by 30 utilities, AQMD and CARB (government agencies). Sunil also leads grid-to-PHEV communications interface technology development and demonstration programs involving GM and 40 utility companies.
Sunil’s prior experience has been in progressively increasing engineering roles at GM electric and hybrid vehicle programs in electric drive application engineering, hybrid powertrain control algorithms and systems and software engineering. He later worked as a management consultant at Booz &Co, and as a Business Development Manager / Chief Engineer for Hybrid Powertrain Engineering Services at Ricardo, Inc.
Sunil holds a BSc, MSc and PhD in Electrical Engineering, specializing in Motor Drives and Power Electronics, as well as an MBA from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, specializing in Technology Commercialization. Sunil is a member of SAE and IEEE, has authored 17 research reports / technical papers, has been awarded 4 patents, 3 awards of technical excellence and one Gold Medal for academic excellence.
